WhatsApp Will Stop Working on Millions Of Smartphones Soon

As of November 1st (today), certain smartphone users will no longer be able to use the popular messaging app WhatsApp.

Currently thought to affect 'millions' of people, the only fix is for the user to upgrade their device or software to a more recent model.

The changes are set to affect Android and iOS users and will mean that messages, photos, videos and files won't be accessible through WhatsApp. According to the teams behind the app, this move is to keep the messaging app secure and safe for its primary user base and, as such, certain models of smartphone need to be phased out as newer security measures are installed.

For iPhone users, the iPhone 6S will experience these difficulties, as well as the iPhone 6S Plus and iPhone SE. Similarly, if you're using an iPhone 4S or older, you will need a new handset.

Android users will need to be using Android 4.1 or later. The full set of affected devices is below:

The update comes after WhatsApp users being asked to agree to a new policy earlier this year, with anyone declining the update and policy being removed from the messaging app.
