Unless you've been living under a rock for the past month and a half, it's likely by now that you've heard the audio, "I'm a little lad who loves berries and cream." No doubt you even randomly break out into the tune without even noticing...

Well, ever wonder where it came from?

The trend dates back to a 2007 Starburst advert, where the sweets company first advertised the (now-discontinued) Berries & Creme flavour.

In the advert, actor Jack Ferver is wearing period clothing (looking somewhat like Lord Farquaad from Shrek) and interrupts two friends talking about the Berries & Creme Starburst. Ferver then asks, "Pardon me, what kind of Starburst did you just say?"

To which he begins dancing and cheering "Berries and cream, berries and cream, I'm a little lad who loves berries and cream."

And it doesn't stop there... the original advert was so popular, that Starburst even followed it up with another one featuring a tutorial on how to do the "little lad dance." And yes, it's as weird as it sounds.

The trend first started with podcaster Justin McElroy, when he posted a clip of the commercial on TikTok with the caption, "Please make great art with this sound, it's what we all need." From there, the hashtag #berriesandcream now has over 4.8 billion views, and this number doesn't even include the remixes adding "berries and cream" or "little lad" into other popular songs and TikTok sounds.
