Striking a good work/life balance that doesn't leave you exhausted is something we all strive to achieve.

And new research for today's National Stress Awareness Day has revealed that we're seemingly even further from achieving a stress-free existence.

A new study by Kalms has shown that women experience a staggering 208 stressful situations a year, with our gender feeling the strain far more than men.

Among those most affected are women aged 25-34, many of whom are struggling to balance a growing career, their finances, relationships and getting on the property ladder.

The report, conducted on 2,000 adults, found that 25 per cent of women experience a stressful situation more than eight times a week compared to just 16 per cent of men.

It seems that the weight of all the worry is having a profound effect on us too, with 43 per cent of women losing sleep and indulging in comfort food in times of high-pressure.

So just what is stressing us out? Managing bills and our finances, trying to fit everything in one day is top of the list for us ladies - with men more concerned about working long hours and debt.

Neil Shah, director of the Stress Management Society, revealed: “When we look at the gender split, we can see that men and women are stressed about different things.

"While women worry are more worried about managing bills and finances and juggling their time to fit everything in to their day, men are more concerned about working long hours and  worrying about debt.

"Consequently, the fact that they are worrying about different things could also be a source of tension within relations."

Luckily, there are steps we can take to tackle the problem. Finding ways to relax, exercising and a healthy diet can all help to relieve the symptoms of stress.
