  • The Welsh Indoor Championships and Welsh Cross Country Championships will not be held this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

  • The events normally happen in the first few months of the year.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect running races all over the world, it has been announced that neither the Welsh Indoor Championships or the Welsh Cross Country Championships will take place this year.

Wales is currently in a Level 4 lockdown, with residents instructed to stay at home and not see anyone outside of their household or support bubbles. World Athletics has said due to the lockdown restrictions, it is not safe for the running events to go ahead.

In a statement, World Athletics acknowledged the news would be disappointing to athletes, saying, ‘Whilst we know this news will come as a disappointment for many athletes in Wales, we must once again prioritise the National effort to protect public health. Strict restrictions on numbers are likely to remain in place in Wales as we regress through the Alert Levels, but we certainly hope that a number of competition opportunities will be on offer as and when restrictions allow.

‘We fully appreciate the ongoing patience and support of the athletics community in Wales during these difficult times.’
