- Last week, ASCAP listed a song registered by The Weeknd called “Like Selena,” and naturally, everyone thought it was about, like, Selena.
- These two dated for about 10 months in 2017 and broke up because of distance.
- But now the song isn’t listed anymore, so I guess that’s not a thing!
Bad news for Selena/Weeknd (Selekend? Weekna? IDK.) fans: It looks like “Like Selena” isn’t a thing after all.
Last week, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) added a song called “Like Selena” to its registration list under The Weeknd’s name, but as of today, the listing is totally gone.
The Weeknd teased new music on Instagram this week, captioning this blurry photo, “The fall starts tomorrow night.”
FYI, in case all the recent celebrity breakups and makeups this year have irreparably confused you: Selena and The Weeknd started dating in January 2017 and split up after about 10 months. A source told E!, “It’s been hard for them to come to the realisation that this is the direction things were heading, but it’s been hard for months. They have been open and honest about it and where they were going. Distance definitely played a factor.”
Of course, this wouldn't have been the first time The Weeknd has crooned over ex Selena in a song. 'My Dear Melancholy' was also about their split.
"Guess I was just another pit stop/'Til you made up your mind/You just wasted my time," he sings, seemingly referencing how quickly she got back with Justin following their break up.
Selena, can we expect a song from you next?
