Wednesday's Jenna Ortega shares reaction to news of the show's renewal

Wednesday, the Addams Family spin-off focusing on the teenager's escapades in boarding school, has finally been given a second season after it premiered in November to some of Netflix's biggest ever viewing figures.

Although the wait for a season 2 greenlight might have had fans worried that the show was too big for Netflix to renew, it's been officially confirmed at last.

"Thanks to everyone who made this upcoming season possible," Jenna Ortega tweeted. "This has all been pretty surreal."

The show's creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar also shared their reaction to the series' renewal, stating: "It's been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world. Thrilled to continue Wednesday's tortuous journey into season 2.

"We can't wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky-world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn't emptied the pool first."

There was some speculation that Wednesday might be snapped up by Amazon's Prime Video service, after the streaming/retail giant bought parent company MGM.

However, it's transpired that the Wednesday deal was already in place, and TV production companies making content for channels/streamers not owned by their parent companies is not unheard of.

A Netflix spokesperson also confirmed that Amazon's acquisition of MGM "has no impact on existing rights deals".

Wednesday season 1 is available to stream on Netflix now. Season 2 doesn't currently have a release window.
