Watch These YouTubers Take On The 'Acid Bath' Workout With Mat Fraser

As part of his ongoing contributions to the 'FRA5ER' YouTube channel, five-time CrossFit champion Mat Fraser recently invited filmmakers Heber Cannon and Marston Sawyers — AKA The Buttery Bros — to his home gym. The purpose of their visit? To take on the 'Acid Bath' workout.

Having made its debut in the 2018 Dubai Fitness Championship Finals, 'Acid Bath' is a three-part sprint workout that's designed to tax your cardiovascular system, test your fitness and, potentially, put athletes through a punishingly quick build-up of lactic acid in the legs. With a time cap of six minutes, 'Acid Bath' consists of:

  • 500 metre SkiErg

  • 500 metre row

  • 1,000 metre BikeErg

Ahead of the workout, Fraser advises to keep the dampeners heavy on the SkiErg and the BikeErg, while maintaining a steady output on the row. "I did this workout once and that's enough for anybody," laughs Fraser before things kick off. "This workout sucks!"

After Fraser's partner Sammy Moniz and manager Matt O'Keefe take on Acid Bath, the Buttery Bros step up to the Ergs. Having taken on the challenge before, Sawyers has an 'Acid Bath' PB of 5:19 and Cannon isn't far behind with a 5:42 PB. Sawyers matched his PB in the session with Fraser — "I feel a lot better than the first time," he says — and Cannon beats his PB by four seconds with a new time of 5:38.

"When we did this event in Dubai and completed it, everyone collapsed at the finish line. No-one could stand up," says Fraser. "I know for myself, and a couple of others did. the same thing, we got up and tried to look strong, but as soon as were out of the crowd's view and in the tunnel, we all collapsed again. None of us could walk back to the warm-up area. It was brutal."
