Watch the ‘Outlander’ Cast (Try to) Read Their Lines With American Accents

As Outlander star Graham McTavish once proved, everything sounds better with a Scottish brogue or a British accent. So when the cast of the Starz drama dropped by Yahoo TV’s suite at San Diego Comic-Con, we decided to put a theory to the test: Would Outlander‘s dramatic, romantic dialogue sound as good when read with an American accent? Though the challenge was daunting — “After this, we’re never going to be able to work in the U.S. ever again,” joked Tobias Menzies — the stars bravely gave it their all.

Sam Hueghan performed Jamie’s “I’ll find you — I promise” speech as though he was a man from “somewhere outside of Boston,” while Caitriona Balfe performed one of Claire’s zingers like an American dame from the 1940s. As for Menzies? Let’s just say his attempt and an American-sounding accent sent Balfe into a fit of giggles.

We love you, guys — but maybe stick to your day jobs… er, accents.
