Ariana Grande's new Netflix documentary excuse me, i love you sheds light on just how much the newly-engaged singer is devoted to her musical idol Mariah Carey.

In a clip from the documentary, which sees Grande peel back the 'backstage curtain' on her Sweetener Tour in 2019, the 27-year-old breaks down in tears while discussing the famous singer.

The emotional moment takes place after the 'thank u, next' singer receives a call from her manager, Scooter Braun, who informs her that Carey wants to make a music video for her holiday hit 'All I Want For Christmas Is You', with videos of some of her favourite artists including Grande - dancing to the track.

After hearing the news, Grande asks, 'Does that mean she likes me?' to which Braun responds that the hit 1990s singer likes her 'a lot'.

The Grammy award winner proceeds to gush directly to camera about Carey, explaining the impact the singer has had on her music.

'It just means a lot to hear from her because my sound was so influenced by her and the 1990s pop sound,' Grande notes. 'The fact that she thought of me is very soul-shaking. You know what I mean? It just means a lot, as an artist and a fan.'

The singer then begins to tear up, before noting: 'It's pretty cool.'

Fans of the stars have since highlighted how 'pure' and ' beautiful' Grande's tearful moment over Carey is in the documentary, which was released on December 21.

In the beautiful, full circle moment, the star also shared that she 'learned to sing by mimicking Carey, and Whitney and Beyoncé'.

Earlier this month, Grande and Carey shared a sweet moment together with singer Jennifer Hudson when the trio sang the latter's Christmas song 'Oh Santa!'.

You can stream excuse me, i love you on Netflix.
