We signpost the movies to seek out at this year’s annual event
Coronavirus has thrown this year’s film-release calendar into a tailspin, with studios scrambling to release their new movies on digital platforms or, in many cases, putting them off until 2021. What a joy, then, that the London Film Festival has taken a show-must-go-on approach to its annual event, and has unveiled a glittering line-up of more than 50 titles that will be screened virtually and in select cinemas over the next 12 days. More good news: those who are not based in the capital will be able to enjoy the festival too, since partner venues across the UK are also participating. Here, we round up the movies we are most anticipating, from a lesbian romance starring Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan to Regina King’s feature directorial debut.
The BFI London Film Festival in partnership with American Express runs from 7 to 18 October. For the first time, LFF ticket holders will be able to vote for this year’s awards.
