Washington should get back to a New Year’s Six bowl game. At least according to the league’s preseason media poll.
The Huskies are the overwhelming favorite to win the Pac-12 in the poll. Washington got all but two first-place votes to win the North Division and was picked by 37 of 42 voters to win the entire league.
North Division
Stanford and Oregon split the two remaining first-place votes in the North. The Pac-12 North boasts a strong group of returning quarterbacks including Washington’s Jake Browning, Stanford’s K.J. Costello, Oregon’s Justin Herbert and Cal’s Ross Bowers. Washington State, a contender in the North over the past few seasons, is picked to finish next-to-last.
1. Washington (40 first-place votes)
2. Stanford (1)
3. Oregon (1)
4. California
5. Washington State
6. Oregon State
South Division
The South is much closer than the North. USC’s 22 first-place votes were eight more than the 14 votes Utah received. Arizona, with new coach Kevin Sumlin, UCLA and Colorado also got first-place votes. UCLA’s two first-place votes may be a bit of a Chip Kelly bump. The former Oregon and NFL coach takes over for Jim Mora with the Bruins, a team looking to replace first-round NFL draft pick Josh Rosen at QB.
1. USC (22)
2. Utah (14)
3. Arizona (3)
4. UCLA (2)
5. Colorado (1)
6. Arizona State
