I want my miserable mom to have an affair — it’s my Mother’s Day gift to her

A sympathetic daughter wants to give her mom an unorthodox Mother’s Day gift, but some are calling it “evil.”

Rather than a nice card, chocolates, flowers or breakfast in bed, one Reddit user is considering getting her mom an affair.

The poster wrote in the sub-Reddit group r/marriageadvice that her mom is “miserable” in her marriage and she believes it’s because of her dad.

“They barely speak to each other, he always sits in front of the TV and never lets her watch what she wants to. She goes to the effort of cooking him dinner and he barely even eats it, doesn’t thank her,” the woman explained.

“They’ve lost all affection, she told me he doesn’t even give her a kiss before bed. I can’t remember the last time they went out for dinner or on a date or something. I think they’ve got all hung up on their small little annoyances and don’t appreciate each other anymore, but they used to be so good together.”

She continued to say that her mom is “fun and sociable,” but her dad and the marriage in general is “an absolute drain on her.”

The poster shared that her mom had thought about meeting someone new before, but ultimately she loves her husband and won’t leave him.

“With Mother’s Day coming up, I wanted to treat my mum to something unusual that could also get her marriage back on track,” she wrote. “So I was thinking about getting her a membership to one of them dating websites you go to for an affair. I read that it can actually help a marriage.”

Unsurprisingly, the post was met with a lot of backlash and shock.

“No. Is this a troll?” someone questioned. “Affairs don’t help marriages. They destroy them. They end an already dead marriage and destroy people. If your mom wanted an affair she would [have] had one by now.”

“Are you out of you mind? I mean you really need help if you are seriously asking this question. Help you mom and dad by doing something nice for their marriage and quiet being evil and trying to destroy it,” another wrote. “You seriously need help.”

“Under no circumstances buy her an affair membership. Even if your mom doesn’t use it, someone can recognize her profile and tell your dad- and NOW your mom has to deal with something that makes her look like she wanted to betray the marriage when it was YOUR actions.”

“This has got to be a troll. No person in their right mind would think of this,” someone else said.

“Where on Earth did you read that it could actually help a marriage?” a baffled user wrote.

“Well it could help end the marriage if that’s is the plan,” one person quipped.
