Wales end a disappointing 2020 against Italy looking to secure only their third win of the year in the Autumn Nations Cup fifth-place play-off.

Having only beaten Georgia in the last 12 months on top of this weekend’s opponents when they met in the Six Nations last February, Wales will hope to sign off the year on a high at the Parc y Scarlets to lift the spirits of a deeply concerned fan base.

Wayne Pivac’s side has suffered defeats against England, France, Ireland and Scotland this year, but Italy have not won any of the games they have played this calendar year, with their only victory coming in the 28-0 walkover that they received by virtue of Fiji being unable to play their Autumn Nations Cup group match last month.

Pivac has elected to experiment slightly with his side, with George North returning at the unfamiliar position of outside centre and both Callum Sheedy and Liam Williams preferred in place of Leigh Halfpenny and Dan Biggar respectively, while Italy boss Franco Smith hands Welsh-born Stephen Varney his first start.

Here’s everything you need to know about this weekend’s match.
