Waitrose announced some very exciting news for vegans this week.
The supermarket has launched a delicious vegan cheese fondue just in time for Christmas!
The 'This Is Not Cheese Fondue' by Willicroft is made from a combination of nuts and tofu, takes 15 minutes to cook and serves two.
Our Consumer Food Tester Mel Giandzi put the vegan fondue to the test and described it as a comforting dish.
"If you’re a fan of rich flavours then you’ll love this alternative to the beloved alpine dish," Mel said, adding: "With hints of marmite and soy sauce, it has a salty, umami flavour."
"Add a splash of white wine to transform this curd-like product into a silky smooth ‘cheese fondue’," she recommended.
"It is comforting and pairs perfectly with sourdough bread and crunchy carrots."
The This Is Not Cheese Fondue is available in stores now and will cost £6 until 4 November when the price will then increase to £7.50.
Alongside the plant-based fondue, Waitrose is also launching This Is Not Cream Cheese and This Is Not Grated Italian Style Cheese.
The supermarket decided to add to its vegan offering this year after an increase in demand for vegan cheese and vegan Christmas dishes on the website. Compared to last year, searches for 'vegan cheese' on Waitrose.com increased by 76%, while searches for 'vegan Christmas' increased by 64%.
Speaking about the new launch, Jo Haywood, Waitrose Speciality Cheese Buyers said: "We are really excited to be the first UK supermarket to launch a vegan fondue product. This Is Not Cheese Fondue is innovative and delicious and we think our customers will be very excited to try it, even if they aren’t vegan!"
