Waitress at the Adelphi Theatre: First look at pictures of Joe Sugg on the West End stage

The first production pictures of Joe Sugg starring in Waitress have been released.

The YouTuber and Strictly Come Dancing star takes over the role of Ogie from Inbetweeners actor Blake Harrison.

He joins Lucie Jones in the lead role of Jenna, who took over from Katharine McPhee, while Ashley Roberts leaves the cast.

The musical, written by Sara Bareilles and Jessie Nelson and based on the film of the same name, tells the story of waitress and pie-maker Jenna, who is stuck in a small town and a difficult marriage. She conspires with her workmates Dawn and Becky to find a way out of her situation.

Waitress opened at the Adelphi Theatre earlier this year, with the Evening Standard awarding it four stars in its review, saying “there’s a whole lot of humour baked into it.”

Marisha Wallace and David Hunter are both continuing in their roles. Laura Baldwin, who originated the role of Dawn in the London production, rejoins the cast after Roberts's exit.

Roberts told the Standard that appearing on Strictly Come Dancing gave her the confidence to make her West End debut.

Sugg said: “I’ve had quite a few dreams about it already, dreaming about being on stage and waking up in a sweat. Though I do think in a funny way the bigger the crowd, the less nervous I get. It is the small, intimate crowd where you can see everyone’s face that is scary.

The musical is now booking until January 4
