During these times of social distancing due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, many runners are setting themselves challenges, whether that’s a 5K PB or just running everyday. Yet one unexpected runner claims to have broken the 100m world record during lockdown - Britney Spears.
The pop icon shared a photo of the stopwatch app paused at 5.97 seconds along with the caption, “Ran my first 5 !!!! Getting over your fear of pushing it in the beginning is key …. once I did that I hit 5 !!!!! Usually I run 6 or 7 …. my first try was 9 …. and now I did it whoop !!!!! 100 meter dash 🏃🏼♀️🌸💕😉 !!!!!”
Like many runners, this made us stop and say, what? Did Britney Spears just beat Usain Bolt’s 100m world record of 9.58 seconds?
Nick Hautman, Associate Editor at US Weekly commented ‘Wat?’ which has received over 1,000 likes.
Another runner commented, “How far did you run? I am confused Britney, explain.”Others also questioned whether Britney was now faster than Bolt, writing “ Is your distance correct? Lol Usain Bolt’s world record time for 100m dash is 9.58 seconds. 😂”
Britney is yet to clarify exactly how far she ran in 5.97 seconds, but who knows, maybe we’ll see the ‘Oops! I did it again’ star competing in Tokyo 2021.
