Sir Tom Jones produced a shock for the ages during Saturday night's (8 February 8) instalment of The Voice UK.

The team coach, whose tracks 'It's Not Unusual' and 'What's New Pussycat' are considered stone cold classics, admitted that his real name is in fact Thomas Jones Woodward, after an auditioning singer revealed her surname was Woodward too.

Even fellow coach Olly Murs couldn't believe what he was hearing, and this is a guy who works with Tom for a couple of months every year.

Although this fact has been staring right at us on Wikipedia for soooo many years, it's still taken everyone by surprise on social media - how could we not have known this about one of the world's most beloved music legends?

"How have I been on earth for 40 years and only now learned the Tom Jones isn't actually called Tom Jones?!" pondered one Twitter fan.

Another shared: "They say you learn something new everyday. Well today most people learnt that @RealSirTomJones surname is actually Woodward [shocked face emoji]."
