Keen to learn more about where your food comes from? Well, LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) has an exciting programme of events for you.

This year, to celebrate all things agricultural, farms across the UK will be flinging open their field gates to offer the public a sneak peek behind the scenes. Starting on 7th February 2021, the organisation is kicking things off with their first monthly farm visit, broadcast live via their Facebook page.

On 28th March, the online Spring Open Farm Sunday will offer virtual tours, giving viewers the chance to learn more about the wildlife and biodiversity all around us.

Keen to pull on your wellies and get out there in person? LEAF’s 15th Open Farm Sunday will take place on 13th June – with participants in Cornwall, Cumbria and everywhere in between.

Key dates:

  • 7th February – First monthly farm visit broadcast on Facebook

  • 28th March – Spring Open Farm Sunday (virtual)

  • 13th June – Open Farm Sunday (in person)

Taking into consideration COVID restrictions, host farmers will be making the most of outdoor spaces with farm walks, scavenger hunts and show-and-tell talks in the farmyard. Plus, with post-Brexit trade deals putting food standards very much in the public eye, visitors will have the opportunity to meet those growing produce and rearing livestock – learning more about the economic and environmental benefits of buying British.

As we reach the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, LEAF will launch their final virtual event of 2021: Harvest Open Farm Sunday – shining the spotlight on produce and provenance. There’ll also be delicious seasonal recipes for you to make at home.
