This virtual festival is a must for book lovers

We're excited to announce Good Housekeeping's Big Summer Book Day, an online festival taking place on 26 July. Join novelists, crime writers and cookbook authors for a day of totally free events to entertain, educate and inspire you.

Fern Britton will be speaking from her home in her beloved Cornwall about how the landscape around her inspires her writing, crime writer Karin Slaughter will be answering your questions and author and activist Kit de Waal will be talking about the books that have shaped her.

The day will also feature a Q&A with Lionel Shriver, author of We Need To Talk About Kevin. You'll be able to watch food writer Skye McAlpine cook a summer recipe from her latest cookbook, A Table For Friends and have a special guided tour through the stylish wardrobe of TV presenter and author Dawn O'Porter.

The line up

Fern Britton started her career in TV, before becoming a best-selling author, with 17 books to her name. She'll be talking about how the gorgeous Cornish landscape influences her books and how her latest novel, Daughters Of Cornwall, was inspired by a secret in her own family. She'll also be answering your questions.

Karin Slaughter will be joining us from her home in Atlanta, Georgia. She is one of the best-selling crime authors in the world and has sold 35 million copies of her books across the globe. Among her millions of fans are Lee Child, Gillian Flynn, Kathy Reichs – and us. She’s best known for her Grant County and Will Trent series and her latest book - The Silent Wife - is the 10th in the series. It's also her 20th book in 20 years! She'll be answering your questions on everything from inspiration to her writing routine.

Kit de Waal is an activist and author, whose debut novel My Name Is Leon was an international best-seller. She's also the editor of Common People, an anthology of working class writers. She'll be joining us to talk about the books that made her who she is, from her childhood favourites to the one she thinks everyone should read.

Lionel Shriver is best-known for her novel We Need To Talk About Kevin which has sold over a million copies worldwide. She's also the author of 15 other books and two short story collections. In her session, she'll be answering your questions and talking about latest book, The Motion Of The Body Through Space.

Emma Gannon is an author and host of the Ctrl Alt Delete podcast, which has had over 7 million downloads. She recently published her debut novel, Olive. She'll be talking about challenging notions of womanhood within fiction, including her book's portrayal of the choices women make around whether or not to have children.

Rachel Edwards is a freelance writer, whose debut, Darling, is the story of the toxic relationship between a Black step-mum and her white step-daughter. Its esteemed fans include Bernardine Evaristo and Adele Parks. Rachel will be sharing her must-read list for those who'd like to widen their reading horizons.

Dawn O'Porter is a journalist, broadcaster and author of six books, including her latest So Lucky. She'll be joining us from her home in Los Angeles to take us on a tour of her stylish, retro-inspired wardrobe and talking about the role fashion and clothes play in fiction.

Skye McAlpine is a food writer, who is author of two cookbooks and writes regularly for publications including The Sunday Times and Vogue. She'll be cooking a recipe for us from her new cookbook, A Table For Friends.

Registrants who successfully submit their data will be sent one of five free bookazines on offer. The bookazine chosen by each registrant will be sent to the email address submitted on the form. The free Good Housekeeping bookazines on offer can only be redeemed by successful form submission. Only one free digital bookazine per person. Any questions submitted after this time will not be answered by the authors in attendance. Not all questions submitted before midnight 7 July 2020 will be answered due to time constraints of the event. All registrants will be automatically entered into a competition to win one of ten copies of Good Housekeeping’s brand new Ultimate Recipe Collection. Winners will be randomly selected from the entries received and contacted by email or telephone within 14 days after the event ending. Winners will receive their copy by 31 October 2020.
