Footballer turned actor Vinnie Jones has opened up about the death of late wife Tanya in a teaser clip from his appearance on an upcoming episode of Piers Morgan‘s Life Stories.

Tanya, 53, died of cancer in July 2019 after suffering with the condition for a number of years.

Now former Wimbledon and Wales midfielder Jones has opened up about Tanya on Life Stories, ten years after making his first appearance on the programme with Good Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan.

A teaser clip of the show, due to be aired on Saturday (5 September), sees Jones describe his wife as a “beautiful person”.

The clip sees Morgan saying to his guest: “When we last spoke for Life Stories 10 years ago, Tanya was here, she was in the front row.”

Morgan then asks Jones if it’s “unbearable” to see the footage of Tanya from the old clip.

Jones responds: “No, I suppose it’s probably the memories more than anything. Such a beautiful person, Piers.”

He adds: “I’d let her down so many times, but she’d catch me. And it was so much, many times, I said to her once, ‘It was like catching a falling star.’ She never once, Piers, would not put her arms out and catch me, every time.

“I said, ‘Just love me unconditionally,’ and that was her promise.”

Speaking to The Sun last month, Jones spoke of his grief since Tanya died, and revealed he was seeing a therapist.

He said: “I’m seeing someone three times a week. I thought I was doing OK, and then the anniversaries of Tans’s death and our daughter Kaley’s birthday were approaching and it was like somebody just drained the life out of me.

“It feels like you’re pushing a truck with no petrol from here to Manchester uphill on the M1.

“I’ve kind of shut myself away from close friends as well. I don’t know why. I watch a movie on TV but just stare through it, I’m not taking it in.”

Piers Morgan’s Life Stories with Vinnie Jones airs on ITV on Saturday 5 September from from 10pm.
