"I've learned a lot about myself in lockdown," Kristen Wiig muses on the set of her Harper's Bazaar UK digital cover shoot. "Probably most important is that I recently became a mom, so learning how to do that has probably been the biggest thing. It's the best, greatest thing."
While arguably best known for her work in comedy, the actress has stepped out of her comfort zone to star in her first superhero blockbuster, Wonder Woman 1984, opposite Gal Gadot. As a result of their eight-month stint filming in London, the co-stars have become firm friends.
"Gal is probably one of my favourite people in the whole world," Wiig says, smiling. "You can tell by just seeing her on screen, listening to her, looking at her - she is just the most full of love. She's so warm, she's become one of my really close friends. We shot the movie for almost eight months and it was really long; it was very physical and long hours. Without her I don't know what I would have done. We just had the absolute best time."
And, given everything that 2020 has thrown at us, those great friendships are more important to nurture than ever before, says Wiig.
"I think one of the most important qualities of being a good friend is being supportive," she tells us. "We go through so many different phases and changes in our lives, and relationships and jobs, and all of these things. Especially now. I feel like the world is in a pretty tough place, so to have those friendships is really important. We're all going through various struggles, so to have friends there I think is vital."
