We've not quite recovered from last week's episode of Line of Duty and the huge cliffhanger the series left us with — luckily, Vicky McClure (aka DI Kate Fleming) appeared on a podcast this week to have her say on the ambiguous ending, but it might not be the clear-cut resolution we were quite hoping for...

*Spoilers ahead*

To quickly recap on last week's episode (five), viewers were left uncertain about DI Fleming's fate, after a face-to-face shoot out with bent copper Ryan Pilkington. Shots were fired between the two and then the screen went... blank. Meaning we have no idea if one of the two characters came to a sticky ending, or if — miraculously — they both survived.

Thankfully, Vicky spoke to her old co-star Craig Parkinson (who played DI Matthew 'Dot' Cottan in the series) on the Obsessed With... podcast this week, to way in on the debate of whether show creator Jed Mercurio would actually kill off one of the biggest stars of the show.

Obviously, Vicky was careful not to give too much away, but did note that — given his previous history with the show — Jed clearly doesn't seem to have any problem with killing off popular lead characters, as long as it serves the series' storyline.

'Well you know, every episode of Line of Duty history is terrifying, and Jed is always there to serve the story, and it's exactly what happened with Dot,' she told the podcast. 'Dot's time came when it was time to serve the story and that's what Jed will always do, so I don't wanna put anything out there, but Jed serves the story.'

Not exactly the comforting words we were hoping for, but considering Vicky recently told Red that whilst the decision for another season of LOD is 'not up to me', she would, 'of course', be interested in starring in series seven and is 'massively invested in the show' — which leads us to believe that DI Kate Fleming will be returning to fight another day... Phew!

Line Of Duty continues on BBC One next Sunday at 9pm.
