If You’ve Not Made The TikTok Crispy Accordion Potatoes Yet, You’re Missing Out

Potatoes are one of our favourite food groups. We love mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, baked potatoes, chips, and, of course, crisps. They count too.

Whenever we see a new and exciting way to cook our beloved potatoes, you just know we’ll be giving it a go – and these super-crispy ‘accordion’ potatoes are no exception.

If you’ve been on TikTok recently, you’ll know the stretchy potatoes we’re talking about, because everyone’s having a turn, it seems.

So, how do these potatoes get so damn crispy? Well, it’s all in the cutting.

All you have to do is peel the potatoes, then remove any rounded edge so you’re left with cuboid potatoes. Then slice them so they’re about 1cm thick. Once that’s done, this is where the fun bit starts: get some chopsticks – or anything that will stop you cutting all the way through your potatoes – and cut vertically. Then flip the potato and cut diagonally. See why they’re called accordion potatoes now?

Boil the potatoes briefly, then place on a baking sheet and brush with oil. Adding seasoning to your oil is 100% recommended – we went for smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder and salt and pepper. Brush those guys with the oil, bake in a pre-heated oven (180°C fan) for 40 minutes (turning halfway through), et voila: the crispiest, springiest potatoes you’ve ever seen!
