'Riverdale' couple Vanessa Morgan and Michael Kopech file for divorce after five months

Riverdale actress Vanessa Morgan is getting divorced from husband Michael Kopech, it has been revealed just three days after it she announced they are expecting a child together.

The 28-year-old star of the teen drama married Chicago White Sox baseball player Kopech, 24, in January and on Saturday announced she was pregnant with a baby boy.

Now TMZ has reported Kopech filed divorce papers to end the marriage on 19 June, just five months after they tied the knot.

Morgan – who plays Toni Topaz in the hit CW murder mystery show based on the comic book series –sparked speculation about the relationship when she announced she was expecting her first child on social media, without mentioning Kopech.

The actress shared images from her gender reveal party and wrote: “I am overjoyed to be welcoming my baby boy into the world this January. This little guy has already brought me so much happiness and a feeling of such a greater purpose.”

She added: “On a personal note, I have had the blessing of growing up in the public eye having started my acting career at age six. While this has been incredible for me, I am very much looking forward to giving this little guy some room to grow up outside of the public eye, until he tells me otherwise.

“Lil’ one you were made with so much love and already exude a light so strong it warms my belly. Thank you God for this blessing. I’m just so happy and can’t wait to dedicate everyday to being the best mommy I can be.”

Morgan and Kopech started dating in 2018 and got engaged in July 2019.

They were married on 4 January in an elaborate tropical-themed wedding in Florida.

Kopech announced earlier this month he was opting out of the 2020 Major League Baseball season for personal reasons.

He has not pitched since September 2018, when an elbow injury meant he needed ligament reconstruction surgery, but he was expected to be fully recovered and able to pitch this season.
