Feathers, fabulousness, ultra high fashion - when it comes to Valentino's Haute Couture creations nothing is off limits. In fact, the more extravagant the better. And it's this modus operandi that the fashion house has taken direct from the runway and draped across its brand new make-up line, Valentino Beauty.
Sending everything from floating glitter lids, to intricately detailed liquid liner and bird of paradise lashes down the Paris catwalk, courtesy of 'Mother of Make-Up' Pat McGrath, Valentino has earned a reputation for serving up elaborate, embellished, ethereal and totally unexpected make-up looks every single season. Don't even get us started on the full face of gold glitter...
Now, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli is sharing the secrets behind his couture beauty looks with a debut make-up line that lets you live the Valentino fantasy whenever you fancy. With a massive 50 foundation shades and 40 lipstick shades (not to mention a highlighter-meets-primer and eyeshadow palettes), the launch has everything you need to recreate a full face of fashion week-ready make-up.
But, it's not just the basics that the brand have nailed. In true Valentino style, the collection includes glints of true beauty innovation that are simultaneously joyful and convenient. Take the dual-ended Twin Liner that's two different colours so you can choose between a classic black cat eye or a bold bright winged liner depending on your mood. Then there's the three-in-one Brow Trio that incorporates a liquid brow pen, a brow pencil and a comb all in the same product. Genius. The Eye2Cheek blusher compact is designed to work on cheeks or eyes and includes a mini fluffy brush in the hinge.
A designer make-up collection that incorporates thoughtful design? We're here for it. We haven't even mentioned the Dreamdust multi-use glitter toppers.
Speaking on the collection, Piccioli says:
'Beauty and fashion are in a constant and symbiotic evolution. The work we are doing in Valentino is guided by the values we trust in, we moved from an aesthetic built on exclusivity to an inclusive one, we grew from a two-dimensional vision of beauty to a three dimensional one, where emotions, dreams, and individuality are as important, if not more, as any other feature. Beauty is directly connected to the intensity of our feelings, the more we love, the more we are connected to our true self, the more it shows and glows on the outside. Valentino beauty is for the dreamers.'
Valentino Beauty launches on May 31 at Selfridges.
