Val Kilmer has said that he has had to adapt to the new sound of his voice, which has been altered by treatment for throat cancer.

The Top Gun icon is recovering from a two-year battle with cancer, which necessitated a procedure on his trachea.

Appearing on Good Morning America yesterday, he said: “I'm doing great, I feel a lot better than I sound.

“It's just like any other language or dialect. You have to figure out a way to communicate that's no different than any other acting challenge but it's just a very unique set of circumstances.”

Kilmer kept his struggle with cancer private for much of his treatment, though he would appear in public wearing a scarf.

After much speculation in the press, the Batman Forever actor, who is a lifelong Christian Scientist, said that he had been through 'a healing of cancer' in 2017.

A profile in The Hollywood Reporter later the same year revealed the extent of his treatment.

He is returning to the screen, however, with three movies in post-production.
