Uruguay were knocked out of the World Cup in Qatar despite beating Ghana 2-0 in their closing match in Group H.

The Uruguayans looked to be heading through after taking a two-cushion but Hwang Hee-Chan late winner in South Korea's win over Portugal meant it was the Koreans that qualified on goals scored.

Luis Suarez was left tin tears on the sidelines as his final World Cup appearance ended in the most dramatic of circumstances.

Uruguay finished the tournament, with a win, a draw and a loss from their three matches and with, crucially, just two goals scored.

What is Uruguay's World Cup record?

Uruguay have twice won the World Cup, starting with the inaugural tournament in 1930, when they beat Argentina 4-2 in front of their home fans at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.

They also won the 1950 World Cup in Brazil, their first tournament since winning the trophy in 1930, when they beat the hosts 2-1 in the final match in Rio de Janeiro.

The furthest Uruguay have gone since is the semi-finals in South Africa in 2010. They finished fourth in that tournament after losing the third-place play off to Germany.
