Unforgotten star Sanjeev Bhaskar has revealed the secret behind one of the show's biggest mysteries.

No, it's not how that man ended up without a head in the fridge (more answers to come as the series continues) but a more pressing matter -but it's what exactly is inside DI Sunny Khan's back pack.

Wherever Sunny (played by Bhaskar) goes, the faithful rucksack follows on his shoulder. But what's he carting around in there? SPOILER ALERT - the contents change each episode, and it's the work of the show's wardrobe department playing some behind the scenes pranks.

After episode four aired last night, Bhaskar tweeted a picture of the bag's contents, which included Part of what looks like a doll's house, a book of Dolly Parton quotes, a she-wee and some saucy charades.

He wrote, "Here are the surprise contents packed by the costume dept for #Unforgotten Ep 4 for #sunnysbackpack. I feel there’s a theme here and they’re trying to tell me what they think of me! Thanks all for watching."

Previous weeks' content has been equally impressive, from tins of sardines to selfie sticks, and poop bags to cut glass champagne flutes. Bhaskar doesn't ever know what he's going to get each week, so the big reveal is always a sight to behold.

Here's some more backpack miscellany from series 4, which has been topping the ratings with over 7.7million viewers each week:

With two episodes of this series to go, we're as gripped with the show as what's in the bag. Can't wait to see what's in there next week.
