Underwater Book Store Allows Bookworms To Read In Utmost Tranquillity

Underwater Book Store Allows Bookworms To Read In Utmost Tranquillity. MUDA Architects have designed a lakeside bookshop in Chengdu that allows you to read your favourite books below the waterline. The shop is designed so bookworms can look under the lake while leafing through their favourite tome. Featuring a roof that resembles an upturned book and windows that extend below the water level, the building aims to embody MUDA Architects' concept of a book that has fallen from the sky. Extending along the edge of the lake in the south of Chengdu, its roof compliments the outline of a nearby grassy slope and appears to float above the water. Its titanium-zinc panels also create a texture reminiscent of fish scales shimmering in sunlight. The lower section of the shop is partially submerged below the level of the lake meaning that during the day, natural light permeates the water and bathes readers with "an ambience of serenity”.
