From Australian soap 'Neighbours' to pop princess, Kylie Minogue has been topping the charts since her debut single 'Locomotion' in 1987. But although she sang "I should be so lucky in love", Kylie has been unlucky when it comes to the guys she has romanced. Following the news that her most recent relationship has come to an end after five years, this is a look back at the dating history of the 'Spinning Around' icon who is "not worried" about being single once again...

Kylie Minogue was the girl-next-door who shot to fame as car mechanic Charlene Mitchell on Aussie soap opera 'Neighbours' and her character went down in soap history when she struck up a relationship with and eventually married Scott Robinson - played by Jason Donovan - on the series. Outside of the show, Kylie was soon snapped up by pop impresarios Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman, who were tasked with writing a hit for the TV star. On finding inspiration for the upbeat track about longing for love, Mike later said: "I thought, 'She’s got everything as far as a career, work and financial security, but maybe she doesn’t have love. Or maybe someone special in her life.'"

Shortly after their fictional alter-egos tied the knot in front of 20 million people, Kylie and Jason started dating in real life. Soon after, Kylie left 'Neighbours' to focus on her music career and Jason soon followed. The relationship is said to have been "difficult" and the pair called it quits in 1989 when Kylie fell in love with INXS frontman Michael Hutchence. Kylie and Jason seem to have remained on good terms ever since, and even reunited in 2018 to perform their 1989 duet 'Especially For You' and once again in 2022 for the series finale of 'Neighbours.'

In 1989, Kylie was riding high on the success of her girl-next-door image when she was approached by INXS rock star Michael Hutchence, who said to her: "I don't know what we should do first, have lunch or have sex?" From there, the pair embarked on an intense romance and remained together for two years until Michael - who took his own life at the age 37 in 1997 - split with Kylie just moments before he went on stage. Years after his death, Kylie said: "As his partner I got to experience a lot of that as well. If you're a sensual being, all of your senses need stimulation. He definitely awakened my desire for things in my world!"

From 1996 until 1998, Kylie had a brief relationship with director Stéphane Sednaoui. Little is known about their time together, but their split is said to have inspired the song 'Breathe' from her experimental album 'Impossible Princess'. The lyrics include: "Don't blame me just because I'm bored."

As the 1990s turned into the new millennium, Kylie - who at this point was about to enjoy an incredible career resurgence with 'Spinning Around' from her big comeback album 'Light Years' - met former model James Gooding but they split in 2003 after he allegedly had an affair with Sophie Dahl and Kylie later claimed that she "should have ended" things sooner as she accused him of being a drug addict. She said: "I was madly in love with James from the beginning but it all went so badly wrong. He couldn’t live without sniffing a line of cocaine or drinking heavily. I should have ditched him before the entire thing got messy."

As she was gearing up to release her ninth album 'Body Language' - which included the hits 'Slow' and 'Red Blooded Woman' - in 2003, Kylie found love once more with French actor Olivier Martinez. He was there to support the 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' legend when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and she explained he would look after her on "particular dark days" by taking her for a ride round Paris. But, a year after she was declared cancer-free in 2006, the pair called it quits. They insisted their decision to part was "mutual and amicable".

In 2008, Kylie met Spanish model Andres Velencoso on the set of a commercial for her Couture perfume range and the pair were together for five years before gruelling work schedules drove them apart. Kylie later said: "I was very sad. You come out the other side of that, being super busy and on the cusp of so many new things help to move on. It was an amicable separation. I still love Andres. He’s the nicest guy, he’s the coolest guy."

In 2015, Kylie started dating 'Galavant' actor Joshua Sasse and the pair got engaged the following year but it wasn't long until cheating allegations surfaced and Kylie called the whole thing off in 2017. She said: "I think we all know that things were not going great in my relationship. But you know when you’re kind of deluded and you’re thinking maybe... maybe this needs saving. Turns out it didn’t."

As Kylie was enjoying the success of her chart-topping album 'Golden' in 2018, she confirmed at a bash for her milestone 50th birthday that she and British GQ executive Paul Solomons had got together. She later said the relationship was "going great" and the pair had to live with each other during the COVID-19 lockdowns but things are said to have fizzled by February 2022 when Kylie chose to relocate back to her native Australia after more than two decades of living in London. A source said: "Kylie and Paul really tried to make things work but ultimately the time difference was a killer - Paul couldn’t exactly nip to Melbourne for a long weekend whenever things got strained."

Despite being single again as she approaches her mid-50s, Kylie is said to be in good spirits and is focusing on the follow-up to her 2020 record-breaking album 'Disco'. A source said: "Kylie had seen the signs that the relationship wasn’t going anywhere, but she’s not worried about what single life will look like. She’s of an age where she knows what she’s worth so she’s not concerned about the prospect of starting all over again with someone new!"
