In mid-June, the Sicheslav 25th Separate Airborne Brigade held makeshift weddings for two couples serving with the paratrooper regiment near the frontlines in the Donetsk region.

Instead of wedding dresses, the brides and grooms wore military uniforms and armoured vests. Spouses Vladislav and Olga are active personnel soldiers who have been fighting in the region for more than one year - where Russian forces and separatists have been operating since a 2014 incursion.

The second new family is comprised of a volunteer soldier and a journalist. Nikolai left civilian life on the day of Russia's full invasion on 24 February 2022 and joined the ranks of the Airborne Assault Troops to defend his homeland.

His new wife Christina has been reporting from the front and helping volunteer troops.

A post on the Brigade's Facebook page reads: "Congratulations to the newlyweds and wish them long, happy years of life in free Ukraine!"
