The latest weather maps have pin-pointed the exact date when temperatures will rise again, promising highs of 25C. After a chilly start to autumn with widespread frost and a low of minus 2.7C in North Yorkshire on Thursday evening, the UK is set for a warm-up starting this weekend. The South East is seeing temperatures of 19C or 20C this afternoon.

But it's next week that will bring even toastier temps, as WXCharts predicts the mercury will hit 25C at midday on Wednesday, September 18. Brits can also look forward to similar warmth next Friday and Saturday. Discussing the weekend forecast, Met Office meteorologist Marco Petagna mentioned "mixed conditions" for Scotland and Northern Ireland but added there will be "a lot of fine weather around, with sunny spells and lighter wind" for England and Wales. Nights will remain cool but not as frosty as recent ones, he noted.

Temperatures on Saturday night are expected to dip into the low single figures, around three or four degrees, particularly in southern regions. Sunday promises some light rain but also "plenty of sunny weather" up north, according to Mr Petagna, reports the Mirror. As for next week, Monday might begin grey with sporadic rain and drizzle in the morning, yet most of the country will enjoy sunshine, gentle breezes, and temperatures climbing into the upper teens, reaching 20C or 21C in the South East.

Mr Petagna revealed: "Thereafter it's really just a high pressure dominating Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, meaning there's a lot of dry, settled weather around. The far north/northwest of Scotland might just see a bit of cloud and the odd spot of rain at times. But apart from that, it will be dry and settled. By midweek we're looking at 23 in the South East."

According to the Met Office's long-range forecast for September 19 to September 28, most parts of the UK will experience "fine and dry, with spells of sunshine for most areas during the day." They note: "Daytime temperatures will likely be above average for many regions, although some cool nights are possible with mist or fog patches developing overnight. Fairly strong winds could affect the south at times."

They further predict: "As we go through the weekend and into the following week, there will be little change from this in the north, but southern areas become more likely to see showers at times, with perhaps some heavy or thundery ones. By late September there is a chance that more unsettled conditions may begin to develop more widely."
