UK set for a sizzling 26C heatwave as sun comes back with temperatures set to rocket
This upcoming weather map has got us feeling the heat already, with an expected 'feels-like' temperature of 26C coming up in the next week. The UK is set for a serious temperature hike as high pressure from Scandinavia, where Finland is basking in "unusually warm" temps of 22C this week, makes its way over.
Up until Wednesday 18 September, we can expect an increase of around 10C - and it's going to feel even warmer thanks to rising humidity levels and not much wind around. In places like Greater Manchester, North Yorkshire, and south Wales, people should be ready to enjoy what feels like a sizzling 26C, Ventusky meteorologists indicate.
A weather map issued by the Ventusky team is glowing with a red hue, hanging over these spots and others think Somerset where temperatures are set to soar to a feels-like 25C by midweek next week. This warm spell is quite the turnaround from the chilly low of 2C felt this week in Aviemore, in the Scottish Highlands, or even from others enjoying slightly milder climes such as the 15C in Coningsby, Lincolnshire and in Carlisle, Cumbria.

And hold onto your sunnies because the Met Office says its only going to get hotter. Their very own meteorologist, Aidan McGivern, points out in the Deep Dive video on YouTube that: "There are increasing signals that high in the south will develop more widely as we go into next week. It's not going to be completely plain sailing... We've but got higher pressure over Scandinavia and this has been a signal in the modelling for the last few days or so, so it's looking reasonably confident," reports the Mirror.
"The European projection, the European model also shows higher pressure to the north of the UK as the most likely weather pattern for Monday to Monday of the following week, but it also shows slightly warmer than average weather across the UK... We'll see a bit of sunshine, it will also be becoming increasingly dry, so drier than average for the UK and for Western Europe and this time of year."
Even though it's going to feel like a balmy 26C due to light easterly winds and increased humidity, temperatures are only going to reach about 23C. Ventusky reports that certain hotspots like Greater Manchester can look forward to being among the toastiest hotspots.
The Met Office shares some optimism on their website, noting: "Through the middle and latter part of next week high pressure will begin to become more dominant, with dry and at times sunny conditions spreading across the majority of the UK. Temperatures during the day will probably be above average in many areas, although some cold nights are also possible."
After seeing more than its fair share of rainfall, with over 32mm soaking Loch Glascarnoch in the Scottish Highlands on Wednesday and close to 20mm falling across Merseyside, the forecasted dry spell is sure to come as a welcome break.
