The Government has secured another two million doses of the world-leading Moderna coronavirus vaccine in a boost to immunisation hopes.

The new orders means the UK will have enough to innoculate around 3.5 million people with the Moderna jab alone, plus the millions of other deliveries expected from Oxford University and Pfizer.

The news comes after Boris Johnson wrote to Conservative MPs offering them a second vote on the tiered system early next year in a bid to head off a Commons rebellion on the measures this week.

Meanwhile, anti-lockdown demonstrators decended on central London demanding “freedom” in the face of the tough new Covid-19 restrictions, and the UK’s official virus death toll jumped by 479 overnight, with cases up by 15,871 – as the weekly average continues to fal
