The coronavirus death toll in the UK has risen by three.

The Government said 41,361 people have died in the UK within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19, as of 9am on Saturday.

This up by three from the day before.

A further 1,012 cases of coronavirus have also been confirmed in the same period.

This brings the total number of cases in the UK to 317,379.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have been 56,800 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

NHS England said four people who tested positive for the virus have died in hospital, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,456.

The patients were aged between 66 and 88 and they all had known underlying health conditions.

Six deaths were reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.

Meanwhile, there have been no deaths in Scotland for one month, according to the latest figures.

A total of 51 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours but no-one confirmed as having the disease has died since July 15.

Commenting on the figures, Nicola Sturgeon tweeted: "Prevalence across Scotland remains low – and thankfully, another day of no deaths amongst confirmed cases.

"But these figures also tell us that the virus is most definitely still out there – so please be ultra-careful and follow all the #FACTS advice."

In Northern Ireland, there have been 65 new confirmed cases, the region’s Department of Health has said.

The department said there had been no further coronavirus-linked deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

The death toll recorded by the Department of Health remains at 558.
