Two ultra-marathon runners were rescued and airlifted to hospital after getting lost while running in the north-west of Scotland. The emergency services were called when the duo failed to return from a run on the Cape Wrath trail on Saturday evening.
The men were running from Kinlochewe to Cachan Church and mountain rescue teams were called to find the men in “very challenging conditions”. There was deep snow in places of the trail, and rivers and burns were in full spate.
The two runners were found near Loch an Nid at around 2.15am by a coastguard rescue helicopter. The men were airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment for mild hypothermia.
