Two Special Women Will Join Queen Camilla During Her Coronation

When Queen Camilla is coronated next to husband King Charles III this May 6, she will have two special ladies in waiting by her side.

These ladies in attendance will be her sister, Annabel Elliot, and her longtime friend and current queen's companion, Lady Lansdowne.

Though Queen Elizabeth II had six maids of honor—who carried her dramatically long train and stood by her throughout the ceremony—at her coronation in 1953, Camilla's choice to only have two goes along with the royals' decision to have a more pared-down ceremony this time around.

Ahead, see everything we know about the two women and their roles for the big day.

Annabel Elliot

Annabel, an interior designer and antiquities dealer, is Camilla's only living sibling; their brother, Mark Shand, tragically died in 2014. She will be joined at the coronation by other of Camilla's family members, as the queen consort's grandsons Freddy Parker Bowles and Gus and Louis Lopes, and her grand-nephew (Annabel's grandson) Arthur Elliot, will be her pages.

Lady Lansdowne

Fiona Mary Petty-Fitzmaurice, Marchioness of Lansdowne, is a longtime friend of Camilla, and one of her six queen's companions.

Last year, BAZAAR.com reported Camilla broke royal tradition by appointing six friends as her queen's companions rather than choosing ladies-in-waiting. "The role of Queen’s Companion will be to support The Queen Consort in some of her key official and State duties, in addition to her Private Secretary/Deputy Private Secretary," Buckingham Palace said in a statement at the time.

Speaking of the queen consort and the upcoming coronation to the Sunday Times, Lady Lansdowne said, "She is fiercely loyal to friends and that will be reflected in who goes to the big day. She wants to be loyal to the people who’ve stood by her."
