TWO cats were left abandoned in a crate outside a vet practice in Rutherglen in the middle of the night.

Staff at Taylor Vets on East Kilbride Road discovered the animals when they arrived to open the premises on February 3.

They called the SSPCA following the discovery.

A man with his hood up was caught leaving the crate on CCTV at 3.30am.

Lesley Boyce, Scottish SPCA inspector, said: “The two adult cats, one male and one female, were found abandoned outside the vet in a small black crate with a pack of treats.

“Both cats are dark grey/black in colour and the male unfortunately has significant hair loss as a result of a flea infestation. He is also very slim in comparison to the larger female.

“Although the cats are chipped, the details are not registered so we have been unable to trace an owner.

“Leaving two animals outside in a crate in cold weather for a number of hours will cause them significant distress. It is absolutely not the right way to give up a pet if you can no longer care for them.

“We’re glad the pair are now safe at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres where they will receive the care and attention they need.”
