Twitter reacts to the new Melania Trump Christmas tree photos

It's (almost) the most wonderful time of the year! But for Melania Trump, who come January will be departing the White House along with her husband Donald, after he failed to secure a second term as President of the United States, Christmas was never going to be straightforward. Was it? Well, at least decorating for it anyway...

Just to quickly recap (for anybody who missed it): back in October a voice recording of Melania having a bit of a rant about having to spend time sprucing up her gigantic home for the festive period was leaked – and naturally, people weren't too, umm, happy with it.

"I say that I’m working on Christmas, planning for the Christmas, and they said, ‘Oh, what about the children?’ That they were separated," she can be heard saying, discussing both decorating and detained children. "I’m working my ass off at Christmas stuff. You know, who gives a f*ck about Christmas stuff and decoration? But I need to do it right?"

Now, the actual tree has arrived at the White House and of course, Twitter has plenty to say about the new photos of Melania and said tree:

Melania's own account also commented on the tree's arrival, saying, "Today I welcomed the arrival of the beautiful @WhiteHouse Christmas Tree! We are excited to begin decorating the People's House for the holiday season! #WHChristmas."

But not everybody was on board with her cheery tweet. One social media captioned the pictures, "PHOTO: Melania Trump celebrates the arrival of the official Who Gives a Fuck About Christmas tree" (amassing a casual 12,000 likes). Another wrote, "Melania Trump HATES Christmas. That's it. That's the tweet."

Plenty saw the opportunity to jokingly tweet lacklustre decorations, too:

Some also harked back to Melania's festive efforts from previous years, one of which saw her opt for a deep red colour scheme. One person wrote, "Remember that blood bath Christmas at the White House that Melania did? Everything looked like a Red Rum scene? That was worse." Others pointed out that she wasn't wearing a protective face mask to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

However, there were of course Trump supporters who had lots of positive things to say about Melania and the photos of her tree delivery. One wrote, "FLOTUS received The White House Christmas this morning. So Proud of our First Lady Melania. Our First Lady is absolutely stunning and she loves Christmas... 4 More Years." (which tbh is a tad confusing as there really won't be four more years of the Trumps... Donald Trump has now accepted the formal transition should begin for Biden to take office).

In fairness, to those criticising Melania, she hasn't yet decorated the newly delivered White House tree. Maybe she'll come up with something so totally stunning that everyone will be forced to eat their words? We can't wait to see.
