Greta Thunberg and Donald Trump don't exactly have a history of getting on, and I don't see a bright future for that friendship after the climate change activist launched a sassy tweet at the sitting President of the United States yesterday.

In December 2019, the then-73-year-old world leader took to Twitter to tell the then-16-year-old Thunberg that she needed to address her "anger management problem," perhaps by going "to an old-fashioned movie with a friend." He then urged the teenager to "Chill Greta, chill!"

Unless you've been living in some kind cave, you'll be aware that the world is currently watching Donald Trump have a meltdown as the unfolding US election results show a grasp of power slowly slipping away from him. Trump has been launching accusations (without evidence) of electoral fraud, and has demanded the votes stop being counted numerous times.

Greta Thunberg, observing the President's tantrum-esque behaviour, saw the opportunity to get one back at him. "So ridiculous. Donald must work on his Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Donald, Chill!" she wrote, quote-tweeting a "STOP THE COUNT!" post by Trump.

Needless to say, the environmental activist's witty clap back was widely praised on Twitter. "Trump even lost to Greta tonight," wrote one person. "Incredible. Greta playing the long game," added another.

Of course, as well as the support Thunberg received for giving Trump a taste of his own medicine, she also received backlash from some of his supporters. "You need to learn some manners," scolded one Twitter user, while another accused her of being a "snowflake," and someone else pulled her up on addressing the President by his first name. "In no circumstance is it okay for a teenager to refer to our President by his first name. NO circumstance," they wrote.

This isn't the first time Greta Thunberg has mocked Donald Trump with his own words. In September last year, the politician shared a video of the teen's UN Climate Summit speech with the sarcastic comment: "She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!"

In retaliation, the young woman updated her Twitter bio to read: "A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future."

Well, what goes around comes around.
