Zendaya and Tom Holland are, I think it's safe to say, one of the Internet's favourite couples right now. From their incredible on-screen chemistry (most recently in Spider-Man: No Way Home) and sweet Instagram posts about each other, to their lovable IRL appearances - I really can't get enough of their relationship. And I'm not alone.

Zendaya's most recent Insta post, which includes a picture of Tom going full spidey, swinging around in a harness on-set and the caption: 'My Spider-Man, I’m so proud of you, some things never change and good thing♥️', was posted just before the weekend and has already amassed almost 14 million likes. Yup, the interwebs are obsessed.

So, when Zendaya went and posted an Instagram Story of her seemingly wearing a whopping rock on her engagement ring finger, the internet collectively lost it. Now, the ring itself is reportedly designed by Bulgari and includes an 8-carat cushion-cut canary yellow diamond, flanked by two smaller diamonds on either side, all within a platinum and 18 kt yellow gold setting. Sounds fab, right? Si!

Here's the pic in question:

Naturally, Twitter didn't miss a beat, and was hot on the case with many mistaking the ring for an engagement ring, or at least posing the question:

'Zendaya was wearing an engagement ring. Is she and Tom Holland getting hitched?'

'zendaya? so what's up with that uh, ring??'

'zendaya……my love why is there a ring on that finger ….. don’t-….don’t tell me-'

'Um is that an engagement ring?'

But it wasn't long before an eagle-eyed fan set the record straight, pointing out that Zendaya's been wearing the ring a fair bit recently, albeit mostly on her right hand.

Another went on to suggest that the appearance of the ring on Zendaya's left hand, might be just a result of the photo being a mirror selfie, reversing the image:

'It’s mirrored love.'

In an interview with British Vogue earlier in the year, Zendaya talked about the ring explicitly, explaining that it's a present to herself that she sees as a family heirloom piece for future generations.

'This is my splurge, my treat-myself . . . It feels like it's gonna be an heirloom, like one day I can give it to my grandchildren,' she said. Ain't that a cool idea? Just, yes, Zendaya.

Here are a handful of other times Zendaya's worn the statement jewellery piece lately:
