TV star in 'tremendous pain' after body was ‘shattered’ in five-storey fall, as family give update

When Calls The Heart star Mamie Laverock has been left in 'tremendous pain' with her body 'shattered' after falling five storeys from a hospital walkway.

The 19 year old actress is currently in hospital, where she has undergone multiple surgeries following the fall, which occurred on Sunday, 26 May. Her family have provided an update on a GoFundMe page that they set up for her, as they expressed their gratitude to the nurses and doctors who have worked on Mamie.

The post on the page read: "Focusing now on Mamie's surgery today. Her body has been shattered. She has undergone two 11 hour surgeries with two doctors working on her, a three hour surgery and another surgery today.

"We have nothing but gratitude for the doctors and nurses who have been exemplary in her care since May 26."

It continued: "Doing well because she has survived these extensive surgeries. She is enduring tremendous pain and continues to not give up.

"We can only hold onto the miracles of each day and continue to thank everyone for their prayers and marvel at the miracles of her story. Our daughter loves her life and loves her family and is fighting hard everyday."

Mamie was first taken to hospital on 11 May by her mother, Nicole Compton, after a 'medical emergency' with a GoFundMe page saying that Nicole had 'saved her daughter's life' by doing so.

The young actress was then taken to hospital in Vancouver, but her family revealed that on 26 May, she was 'escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway from which she fell five stories', sustaining life-threatening injuries when she did so.

Speaking with the LA Times on Thursday, Mamie's mother Nicole said her daughter had just 'opened her eyes'.

"Let’s just hope this is the turnaround and she’s going to get through this now. I couldn’t be happier that people reached out and cared. The story will be told."

Nicole stressed that her daughter's accident was not a suicide attempt, whilst admitting that, at present, her recovery remains unclear. She also said that Mamie is 'alive and is showing signs of improvement'.

The worried mother also said the family is looking to take legal action against St. Paul's Hospital, the hospital Mamie was at during the shocking fall. Nicole categorized the possible legal action as a 'negligence-type case.'

"We have a case. All we care about is that Mamie can make a recovery and that she’s alive and that she’s fighting and that she’s strong. It’s unbelievable that she’s with us," Nicole added.
