We've All Been Boiling Our Broccoli The Wrong Way@sidneyraz

Broccoli is one of those things that seems so simple, but can go so easily wrong. If you're boiling or steaming it, there's the risk of lacklustre florets with a sickly green hue, and if you're roasting it then you could easily burn the little trees.

One thing we didn't see coming was that we'd get the method of boiling our broccoli wrong. According to TikToker @sidneyraz, you're not supposed to chop it before you boil it. Huh?

Sidney says it's taken him until his 30s to discover that the easiest way to boil broccoli is to stick it in the pan whole, then remove the florets afterwards in one quick chop.

To be fair, the method does look mega easy. No more forming evenly-sized florets for perfect cooking. Just one chop and done!

Sidney places the broccoli floret-side down in a pan of boiling (we're presuming salted) water and cooks it, before removing with tongs and setting on a chopping board. You can see the florets are super tender and already falling off, but once he chops the broc you can see why it's such a great hack.

Of course, you can use the stem too, you food waste warrior. You can chop it up and whizz it into pesto with basil and pine nuts, or finely slice it and use it in a stir fry or alongside other veg in a gratin. The possibilities for the humble broccoli are endless!
