By now you have probably seen that former President Barack Obama has shared his playlist of the summer, listing the tracks which have seen him through the pandemic from Anderson .Paak to H.E.R. It's a depressingly cool list, as you realise that a 59-year-old retiree is still keeping his finger on the pulse, while you've spent months listening to the Dua Lipa album on repeat.
Over the past few months, I’ve spent a lot of time listening to music with my family. I wanted to share some of my favorites from the summer—including songs from some of the artists at this week’s @DemConvention. Hope you enjoy it. pic.twitter.com/2ZFwdN46jR— Barack Obama (@BarackObama) August 17, 2020
Remembering a time when the President was cool is especially fun given that his current replacement is about as hip as a UB40 beer cosy. It seems unlikely that The Donald will be sharing his summer jams any time soon, perhaps because he fears the artists he includes will just come out and denounce him, like they do when he plays their music at his rallies, or perhaps because he's given up trying to work out how to connect his eagle embossed iPod Mini to the White House sound system.
Trump favours classic crooners and songs which evoke the times of yore – he picked Sinatra's 'My Way' as the first dance at his inaugural ball – but for a summer dominated by teargassing his own civilians and denying a disease which is ripping through the country, here are some tracks that perfectly soundtrack his season of chaos. We'll be bumping it while we wait for his actual playlist to drop.
