Trump's Tweets About Mika Brzezinski Were So Vile, Even Republicans Are Speaking Out
Just when you thought Donald Trump couldn't go lower, on Thursday morning, the President of the United States tweeted that Morning Joe cohost Mika Brzezinski was "bleeding badly from a face-lift." He also called her "low IQ" and "crazy." Trump's tweets, which were posted after a Morning Joe segment that was critical of him, accused her and cohost Joe Scarborough of "insisting" on joining him at Mar-a-Lago on New Year's Eve.
Many Republican officials and right-leaning pundits took issue with the tweets, calling them beneath the dignity of Trump's office.
Mr. President, your tweet was beneath the office and represents what is wrong with American politics, not the greatness of America.

Please just stop. This isn't normal and it's beneath the dignity of your office.
- Ben Sasse (@BenSasse) June 29, 2017
This has to stop – we all have a job – 3 branches of gov’t and media. We don’t have to get along, but we must show respect and civility.

This is not okay. As a female in politics I am often criticized for my looks. We should be working to empower women. https://t.co/sV6WDE0EUD

I do not think making fun of a woman's looks is acceptable. I get it every day of my life. I think that tweet is cruel - and unpresidential

I would make the argument that America loses in all this. https://t.co/WFcPe6N7zq

Sen McCain on Trump's Tweets: "I'm just embarrassed--embarrassed isn't the right word--I just regret it."

Inappropriate. Undignified. Unpresidential. https://t.co/6iZFIfA5Hn

Sen. @OrrinHatch not a fan of today's POTUS missives but ok w/ tweeting habit overall: "Every once in awhile you get a dipsy-doodle!"

Please explain how the president of the United States can be "bullied" by the hosts of what he says it is a low-rated cable TV show? Absurd. https://t.co/3EB9XMKUgY

His Tweets make his critics more visible and they diminish him. It's punching down and it's a mug's game. https://t.co/B8wc1dBoDb

Not everyone agreed. Fox News' Sean Hannity said Joe and Mika were "kissing [Trump's] ass" at Mar-a-Lago. And the communications director for Melania Trump-who is working on an anti-bullying initiative-said, "As the First Lady has stated publicly...when her husband gets attacked, he will punch back 10 times harder."
Maybe liberal Joe should stop calling the @POTUS a schmuck, a liar, a thug and mentally unhinged. Were they kissing @POTUS ass at xmas? Yes https://t.co/Ehf4EHvcjS

Of course, the best response came from Mika herself, who said it all with just one tweet:
