The internet lost its mind when popstar turned beauty mogul Rihanna was spotted using her Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 as the final product in her evening skincare routine. Eagle eyes fans cried out: 'you're sleeping with SPF on?!'.

Well, that's no longer going to be the case. Because, since then, Riri has launched her first nighttime skincare product. 'Y’all thought I was gonna leave you without a night cream?!' she teased in an IG caption that announced the launch of her latest drop, The Instant Reset Overnight Recovery Gel-Cream.

So, the big question is, it is any good? Two WH staffers with an addiction to skincare put it to the test. Here are their honest thoughts...

What is Fenty Skin Instant Reset Overnight Recovery Gel-Cream?

Think of this as a green juice for your skin. It's a rich gel-cream moisturiser that's designed to instantly quench your skin's thirst, reduce the look of fine lines and over time brighten dull skin and reduce the appearance of dark spots.

Key ingredients include:

Kalahari melon oil

This is rich in nourishing omega 6 fatty acids, antioxidants, Vitamins A, B, E, Minerals (magnesium, manganese, iron, copper, potassium, phosorous), Linoleic acid, Oleic acid, Palmitic acid, Stearic acid, and more. It helps regenerate and restructure skin cells to keep it supple and firm.

Hyaluronic acid

Has the ability to attract moisture and bind it to skin cells.

Aloe

Packed with vitamins A, C and E (which are antioxidants), vitamin B12, folic acid, enzymes, fatty acids and minerals such as calcium, magnesium and zinc. Also, the sugars contained in aloe vera have been proven to have collagen-boosting benefits that help wounds heal faster and also help bind moisture to the skin.

Niacinamide

AKA vitamin B3. Has the ability to interrupt the transfer of melanosomes which cause hyperpigmentation but is also a fantastic anti-inflammatory ingredient, helping to reduce redness and discomfort.

Baobab

An African fruit which is brimming with vitamins A, C, D,E and Fand helps to even out skin tone. It’s also a source of anti-inflammatory fatty acids, helping to treat redness and irritation.

Together, these ingredients work to maximise your skin's over repair process so that you wake up with plump, hydrate, soothe, and brighten—exactly what you want in a nighttime moisturiser.

Rihanna explains further saying in a statement that: 'When you’re sleeping your body’s in recovery mode and I wanted to maximize that for the skin. I wanted a night cream that would reset my skin and relieve it from all the stress of the day so you wake up fresh, nourished, and glowing.'

How do you use Fenty Skin Instant Reset?

So like most brands, it's been designed to be used along with other products in the range. Fenty advise using it after the Fenty Skin cleanser and Fat Water toner-serum hybrid. Like the other products in the line, the formula is cruelty-free, vegan, non-comedogenic, and gluten-free.

Fenty Skin Instant Reset: The Verdict

Perdita Nouril, Beauty Editor

'Although a gel-cream, the product felt quite gloopy and anything that has a consistency that's thicker than yogurt usally sends my complexion into a downward spiral that ends with the words 'spots' and 'breakouts'. Thankfully, this did nothing of the sort. The biting weather over the past few months has meant that my skin barrier need's all the help it can get, and this was just the ticket.

'Not only that but I'm using a lot of retinol at the mo, so it was nice to know that this had soothing ingredients that would help to keep my skin calm. If you're looking to tackle serious skin concerns, I don't think this is a contender. However, if you have dry skin with a glow that's gone awol, this will help to dial-up radiance and keep your skin hydrated.'

Morgan Fargo, Digital Fitness Writer

‘I have exceptionally dry skin and a winter in lockdown has done it less than zero favours. From patchy, dehydrated areas to a tightness I can't seem to shake, bedtime has been all about finding moisturising overnight creams to lock in as much hydration as possible. The Fenty overnight cream came in two parts – the refillable outer case and a dose of the 'Instant Reset Overnight Recovery Gel Cream'. After some fumbling putting it together, I cleansed, toned and applied serum (my normal routine), before slathering on enough Fenty goodness to see me through the night.

It applied smoothly, absorbing into my skin quickly. The texture is almost bouncy – not watery or loose – thanks to the gel-cream formulation. It smells luxe, like the cream your mum would have treated herself to back in the day.

'I woke up feeling hydrated but not wet – my skin didn't look congested and my cheeks had a healthy, plump glow to them. As a mixed race woman with hyper-pigmentation and dark spots from the sun and acne scarring, I didn't notice an immediate change overnight but that's to be expected. As a final added step in my nightly skincare routine, it's a win, although I won't be sacrificing my serums or actives anytime soon.’
