Trevor Noah and The Daily Show troll Trump with a full-page newspaper ad posing as a fictional law firm: 'Are you a soon-to-be-ex-president?'

Trevor Noah and his team at The Daily Show have taken out ads in major US newspapers mocking the president.

The group of comedians posed as a fictional law firm offering their services to Trump.

Yesterday (27 August), The New York Times ran a full-page ad promoting “Trevor Noah & Associations & Sons”. The same page ran in The Washington Post and the LA Times.

The satirical advertisement, targeted at Trump, read: “Are you a soon-to-be-ex-president? About to lose legal immunity? Has your lawyer gone to jail?”

It was accompanied by a photograph of Noah posing with The Daily Show correspondents and comedians, including Roy Wood Jr, Ronny Chieng, and Desi Lydic.

Promoting the fictional firm’s services, the ad offers defence against the following charges: “Corruption”; “Mega-corruption”; “Emoluments (we know what that is!)”.

The list continued: “Shady rich guy tax stuff”; “Obstruction of justice (same price for multiple counts!)”; “Mail murder”; “You told people to inject bleach for some reason”. The latter refers to Trump’s past endorsement of injecting disinfectant as a possible means of combatting coronavirus.

The ad also includes a phone number that directs callers to an automated recording offering two options. The first is a message left for the president.

When selected, it plays a voice recording of Noah saying, “Hello, Mr President. I’m Trevor Noah, managing partner of Trevor Noah & Associates & Sons. Have you ever been to Uganda, sir? It’s a beautiful country with a strong goat-based economy. And most important, it does not extradite to the United States.”

The second option is a message directed to all other Americans, encouraging listeners to vote in the forthcoming election in November.
