The Traitors US will air on the BBC – and it starts soon
The Traitors US will air on the BBC in the UK, with its premiere date not far away.
The reality series, which pits the Faithful against the Traitors in a bid to win a prize fund and is based on a Dutch series, made its UK debut across November and December, becoming a huge hit with viewers.
An American version is debuting this month, with the format being tweaked slightly by including celebrities amongst the cast.
Streaming service Peacock will broadcast the show in its native country, but the BBC announced today that it has acquired the rights to air the episodes in the UK, with the entire series being available to stream on BBC iPlayer from January 13.
Additionally, episodes will be double-billed on BBC One on Wednesday nights at 10.40pm, with the premiere being on January 25 and the season running for five weeks in total.
On BBC Three, the season will begin a day earlier (January 24), running for three weeks on that particular channel.
Speaking about the acquisition, Dan McGolpin, the Director of iPlayer and Channels, said: “Following the huge success of The Traitors, which has been streamed more than 28 million times on BBC iPlayer and was the talk of the nation over the festive period, we’re delighted to give BBC viewers the chance to watch the brand new US series within hours of its release in America.
“Hosted by the brilliant Alan Cumming and filmed at the same location as the UK series, it’s a new year treat for those seeking out more treachery – all is about to be revealed on BBC iPlayer, BBC Three and BBC One.”
The cast for the series includes stars from Big Brother, Below Deck, Survivor and Real Housewives, with the prize fund being a maximum of $250k. The first UK series was hosted by Claudia Winkleman won by the Faithfuls, with Aaron, Hannah and Meryl prevailing over the final two Traitors.
The Traitors US will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer on January 13. Episodes will air on January 24 and January 25 on BBC Three and BBC One respectively. It will stream on Peacock in the US.
