The Traitors season 2 confirmed by Claudia Winkleman
The BBC has confirmed that The Traitors will be returning for a second season.
Host Claudia Winkleman announced the news in a video shared via the BBC's Twitter account, adding that applications for season two were now open.
Appearing in the familiar Traitors' hooded cloak, she calls on fans to find out if they have what it takes to compete on the series.
"Can you spot a liar? Could you betray those around you?" she says to the camera. "What I'm asking is... Would you like to play?"
Following the series premiere last November, The Traitors has gone on to rack up 34 million views on BBC iPlayer, becoming their highest-rating entertainment series in the past couple of years.
Speaking about the announcement, Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC, said: "Last year’s ambitious and bingeable hit The Traitors with Claudia Winkleman is coming back with the brilliant team at Studio Lambert set to bring viewers another magnificent series full of drama and suspense.
"We can certainly expect even more deceit and psychological games for the Traitors and the Faithfuls."
The series, which is based off of a Dutch show of the same name, follows a group of contestants working together to win up to £120,000. However, amongst them are a small group of 'Traitors' working against them to eliminate the rest of the contestants known as the 'Faithfuls' without arousing suspicion.
Meanwhile the Faithfuls must attempt to work out who the Traitors are and prevent them from reaching the final and winning the group's prize money.
Season one of the series ended with a dramatic climax after Traitor Wilfred made it to the final, only to be rumbled by his fellow contestants in a last-minute vote.
The Traitors UK aired on BBC One and is available on BBC iPlayer. The Traitors US is available to stream on BBC iPlayer in the UK and Peacock in the US.
