Tottenham have confirmed striker Richarlsion has undergone surgery and will now miss this weekend's game against Wolves.
A club statement read: "We can confirm that Richarlison has undergone groin surgery today (Thursday 9 November). The Brazil international will commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff immediately, before returning to training in the coming weeks."
The striker was an unused substitute in the game against Chelsea but told ESPN Brazil that he was expecting to play a part before his surgery.
He is quoted by football. London: "Of course, I expected to play today as it was an important game, a classic.
"Yesterday I found out that I wasn't going to play, but it's part of football. Of course selection, and call-up, you can ask any player and he'll be waiting. Of course, I expected it, but I already felt that it was also time to take a break.
"Look, the last few months haven't been easy for me. I've also been suffering with my health, I think I've already spoken to the doctors and I'll soon have pubic surgery."
Richarlison arrived from Everton to help share the goal-scoring burden at Tottenham but he's struggled for goal even though there is no question about his efforts and commitment to the team.
